SNOWSPORT® Plowing Tips

For HD, LT, 180 Utility Snow Plows

Before You Plow

Familiarize yourself with the terrain and identify best locations for snow piles. Mark or remove any potential hazards that could be buried under snow and pose safety risks. If blade is warm, cool outside before use to prevent snow from sticking or freezing to it.

Snow Plowing Basics

Amount of snow to clear per pass depends on depth and moisture content, avoid overloading vehicle. Start each pass by accelerating slowly to maintain tire traction and allow blade to gather snow, finish by gradually reducing speed and braking.

Snow Plow Safety

Plow during low-traffic hours when possible, remaining alert for pedestrians and other vehicles. Always wear a seatbelt and check behind you when reversing; relying solely on mirrors or backup cameras can lead to accidents. Avoid pushing snow onto neighboring properties without permission and ensure your snow piles don’t obstruct visibility.

Plowing Heavy Snow

Adjust width of each pass based on snow conditions and increase plowing frequency during heavy snowfalls to prevent excessive buildup. Exercise extra caution in low visibility. Use optional SNOWSPORT™ Hold Down Strap or Down Pressure Kit for extra down pressure to help blade cut through drifted or dense snow.

Snow Stacking Tips

Drive straight with blade centered and plow same path to build taller piles, ensuring sufficient space for new snowfall. Refrain from moving old, frozen piles. To stack snow onto hardened piles, create new pile, then push onto existing one. Don't apply down pressure when stacking snow.

Best Way to Plow Gravel

Make multiple passes with blade raised to pack snow down using tires and minimize gravel movement.

NO HEAVY LIFTING

Attaching blade is easy with the SNOWSPORT™ Snow Plow Winch. Simply pull up to blade, secure cable and raise onto push frame. When clearing large areas, keep the blade down between passes and lift only to change direction or move to a new location.
