Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install a SNOWSPORT® Utility Plow myself?

Yes, installation is simple with easy to follow instructions and how to videos. The blade and push frame assemble in a little over an hour. Depending on your ability level, plan an additional 30-60 minutes to install a front mount. Once assembled, the blade attaches to the mount in seconds.

How much do the plows weigh?

Both SNOWSPORT® LT and 180 Utility Plows 82 in. blades weigh only 68 lbs. SNOWSPORT® HD Utility Plow 96 in. blade weighs 129 lbs. and the 84 in. blade is 114 lbs.

What does "fascia trimming may be required" mean?

Some front mounts may require fascia trimming. Meaning the receiver portion of the mount may interfere with lower region of the bumper's air dam and requires a notch to be cut. See how to trim fascia.

Does the blade ever need to be painted?

No, the blade is made of corrosion resistant, clear anodized extruded aluminum and will not need to be painted.

How well does the rubber cutting edge hold up?

Rubber cutting edge is 1 in. thick by 6 in. tall and manufactured from a durable rubber compound with a life expectancy of 10+ years.

Do SNOWSPORT® Utility Plows angle?

SNOWSPORT® HD Utility Plow can be positioned to angle left or right. SNOWSPORT® LT and 180 Utility Plows are fixed in the straight forward position.

How do SNOWSPORT® Utility Plows operate without hydraulics?

SNOWSPORT® Utility Plows use a motion activated design. With the plow in the lowered position, simply drive forward to engage the blade. The push frame allows the blade to slide up and down, automatically adjusting to the terrain. Reverse and the blade tilts back, skimming over the surface. To automatically re-engage the blade for another pass simply drive forward again.

Can SNOWSPORT® Utility Plows manage heavy, deep snow?

Yes, our plows easily handle as much snow as your vehicle will push before losing traction. The amount of snow to be cleared efficiently is determined by snow depth and water content. Adjusting the width of each pass and plowing more often during continuous snowfalls is helpful. It's advised to keep up with heavy snowfalls and clear snow periodically if extra deep snow is in the forecast. For heavy, drifted snow, we recommend using SNOWSPORT™ Hold Down Strap or Down Pressure Kit.

What speed do you recommend for plowing?

We recommend 10 mph for plowing with a SNOWSPORT® HD Utility Plow and 5 mph when using a SNOWSPORT® LT or 180 Utility Plow. Ensure you have quick pins secured and path is clear.

How do you switch from transporting to plowing?

Simply remove quick pins at the top of the push frame. Lift the blade, one side at a time and lower over push frame. Reinsert the quick pins. When you are done plowing, simply reverse the process.

Is the snow plow easy to install or remove between jobs?

Yes, the plow is designed to easily attach or detach from your vehicle. Insert the push frame into the front/rear receiver and secure with receiver pin. No tools required. Lift the blade, one side at a time, into the push frame retainers and secure with quick pins. Unhooking the plow from the vehicle is just as easy, simply reverse the process.

What if the plow hits something when plowing?

Ideally, prior to the winter plowing season, survey your driveway and yard for possible obstacles and remove if possible or mark. The self-adjusting SNOWSPORT® Utility Plow glides over the terrain and will move up and pass over smaller obstacles. In unfamiliar terrain plow with caution at a slower speed.

Can I transport SNOWSPORT® Utility Plow attached to a vehicle?

Yes, in the transport position SNOWSPORT® Utility Plows do not obstruct OEM headlights. Do not exceed 65 mph when transporting the snow plow.

Can I use the front receiver that is already on my vehicle?

A class III, 2 in receiver mount is required and 8 to 14 in. of clearance from under receiver to level grade when installed for front and rear mounts. A SNOWSPORT® HD Utility Plow will work up to 16 in. above level grade. Vehicles with suspension modifications may cause SNOWSPORT® Utility Plows to fit and operate incorrectly.

Why do SNOWSPORT® Utility Plows ship in multiple boxes?

To use parcel shipping, the SNOWSPORT® HD, LT and 180 Utility Plows are packaged in multiple boxes to meet size and weight requirements. Front mount ships separately.
